Willow Bark Extract

Even in ancient times, people used willow bark for fever control and pain relief. In the early 19th century, the isolation of the active ingredient salicin was successful. In 1897, the breakthrough came: the pharmacist Felix Hoffmann produced acetylsalicylic acid from salicin for the first time – a painkiller that made history at the latest under its brand name Aspirin.

Salicylic acid, as found in willow bark extract, has an antimicrobial effect. It is capable of preventing harmful microorganisms from multiplying or killing them completely. This protects the skin from inflammatory reactions which impair the skin's appearance through redness.
