Olive Oil

Olive oil has a multitude of active ingredients that are good for the skin even when used externally. Therefore it is not surprising that already in ancient times, cold pressed olive oil was considered a remedy against various skin diseases and was also widely used in beauty care.

Besides valuable fatty acids, vitamin A and vitamin E, natural olive oil contains small amounts of oleocanthal. This is an anti-inflammatory substance which, like ibuprofen or aspirin, inhibits the enzyme cyclooxygenase. A scientist first became aware of the substance in 2005 when he noticed a slight stinging sensation in his throat when taking olive oil, which reminded him of ibuprofen.
