Hyaluronic Acid

Hyaluronic acid moisturizes the skin like no other substance. The secret of the acidic carbohydrate: the acid can bind six litres of water per gram of own weight! No sponge can do that.

In addition to its ability to store huge amounts of water, hyaluronic acid has an amazing viscosity. It is liquid and smooth when no mechanical forces are acting on it. If, on the other hand, it is pressed together, it stiffens and offers support. This benefits our joints. Hyaluronic acid is the main component of the synovial fluid, which is fluid during rapid movements, but which cushions the pressure during hard impacts through its sudden toughness.

Hyaluronic acid is found in large quantities in the connective tissue of the skin. Here it binds water, which gives the skin volume and firmness. Unfortunately, the amount of the acid already decreases after the age of 25. In order to prevent the skin from becoming wrinkled and brittle, women and men should apply hyaluronic acid at a young age to keep the skin young.

By the way: science suspects that hyaluronic acid has an anticarcinogenic effect. Naked moles, mouse-sized rodents, can get up to 30 years old without ever getting cancer. Hyaluronic acids in the animals' skin are thought to be the reason for this effect.
