BERTHOLLETIA EXCELSA SEED OIL

The Brazil nut tree (Bertholletia excelsa) grows in the rainforests of South America and can reach a height of 60 metres. Its fruits weigh several kilos and hide walnut-sized seeds inside: the Brazil nuts. The tree, which is difficult to cultivate, produces between 100 and 500 capsule fruits per season. Up to 8000 seeds can be harvested from which the oil is pressed.

There is no other vegetable food with such a high content of selenium. This semimetal is an essential trace element for humans, animals and some bacteria. From it the organisms form an enzyme (glutathione peroxidase), which is decisively involved in the breakdown of membrane-damaging free radicals.

Together with the high content of vitamin E, Brazil nut oil unfolds a high antioxidant power in the skin, which effectively counteracts skin aging due to harmful environmental influences.
